Nicolas Canelo “Mowgli”, un cónsul en la selva
El “Libro de la Selva” cuenta las historias de un niño llamado “Mowgli”, que creció en la jungla, adoptado por una manada de lobos. Para crecer en un ambiente hostil y salvaje, no le influyó ser un humano, no se amilanó frente a su origen y el niño se volvió adulto, con el respeto de todos.
Nicolás Canelo no habla con los animales, pero al igual que Mowgli, logró salir victorioso en medio de la selva. El contraste entre el mar y la abundante vegetación, fue el escenario perfecto para rememorarle sus inicios en el surf y coronar esta etapa de su desarrollo dentro del deporte.
“Mi viaje a Indonesia me hizo recordar ese loco sueño de surfear olas épicas, en medio de la selva, compartir con amigos y, sobretodo, pasarla bien”.
En la selva, Mowgli se hizo de amigos inseparables, compañeros fieles de aventura, otras de las similitudes con Nicolás y su recorrido por tierras budistas. Esa mística y la naturaleza, absolutamente diferente a la que acostumbra vivir, alimentaron su espíritu explorador. En ello, “Nico” halló postales de tubos perfectos y atardeceres de acuarelas.
“Una de mis experiencias más importantes fue en un bote, en medio del mar. Había lluvia y fuertes vientos, pero nada impidió que llegáramos a Bannana Island. Era algo absolutamente nuevo y pese a que las condiciones no eran muy buenas, con el equipo logramos encontrar unos beach breaks muy divertidos”.
Contraste
La riqueza de colores, la diferencia cultural y los kilómetros de distancia no hacían diferencias, el surf de Nicolás se hizo notar en Indonesia. Las olas que lo obligaron a explotar el máximo su potencial, lo ubicaron como uno de los más grandes exponentes de su natal ciudad Iquique, tal como un cónsul representa a su país en otras naciones.
“Sin duda, Indonesia es unos de los mejores destinos que se pueden elegir. La cultura, la fauna y la flora es bellísima. No deja de sorprender, es un lugar para ir descubriendo día a día y espero volver muchas veces más, para conociendo nuevas olas y paisajes”.
A Nicolas no le importo su origen, ni su nacionalidad, su fusión con el mar no diferencia selva, ni desierto, es simplemente como alguien que se reencuentra con su propio hábitat. Mowgli no fue lobo, pero era parte de la manada, así como Nicolas no es indonesio, pero su mística con las olas fue digna de un templo budista.
