HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR BODYBOARD FINS

Fins are an indispensable piece of bodyboarding equipment. For the most experienced riders, choosing them is almost automatic, with personal preferences already established and full control over each brand's measurements due to their experience. However, many people lack this knowledge, so at Erizos Store, we will try to guide you so you can make the best choice when buying your bodyboard fins.
Let’s start with the most fundamental aspect and the main issue when choosing the size of your fins: foot size. Depending on your shoe size, you can determine which size of fins to buy, as the fin sizes are: S – M – ML – L – XL.
Once you are clear on the fin size you need, you can make a more personalized choice based on your preferences. On the market, you will find different types of fins, some softer and others more rigid. It is important to note that stiffer fins are usually a bit faster than softer ones, but they can cause discomfort for people with sensitive feet.
Another aspect to consider is the surfing style you want your fins for: whether for prone surfing, or for dropknee surfing. Dropknee fins have a different shape, generally straight and similar to duck feet. On the other hand, standard fins have variations mainly in the cut of the lower part, which can be curved or standard, like our Erizos Fins or Drag Fins, straight-cut like the Stealth S2 fins, or V-cut like the Vulcan Fins.
Whatever your choice, the most important thing is the size, as all other variations depend on your preferences. Below, we provide a list of sizes corresponding to each foot size range:
– S: 37-39
– M: 40-42
– ML: 42-43
– L: 43-45
It is important to keep in mind that every fin brand has slightly different measurements, so a size L might fit you well in one brand but be too large in another. The table we provide is a guide for you to have an approximate idea of the fin size you need and to be able to try different available brands.
It is also relevant to mention that feet vary from person to person, and there may be cases where fins are not entirely comfortable for various reasons. In these cases, at Erizos Store we also offer various accessories such as fin socks and fin savers to help you achieve the level of comfort you are looking for. These accessories have multiple functions; besides seeking comfort for people with sensitive feet, they can also be important for adjusting the power and comfort of your bodyboard fins.
